This Birmingham, Michigan residence is a masterclass in understated sophistication — where technology is ever-present but almost entirely concealed. Spire Integrated Systems was brought in early to collaborate with an exceptional team of partners, including Khanna Schultz Architecture and Design, Mosher Dolan, Inc., and Vogue Furniture, to bring the client’s minimalist and highly tailored vision to life. From automated lighting and shading to invisible audio and motion systems, every detail was considered, coordinated, and executed with precision. Lutron lighting control and Palladiom keypads provide intuitive access to custom lighting scenes and motorized elements throughout the home, while maintaining the clean architectural aesthetic.

At the heart of the project’s innovation is a one-of-a-kind motorized bourbon wall — a standout feature both technically and visually. Conceived as a seamless part of the home's millwork, the wall was meticulously engineered and fabricated in collaboration with Vogue Furniture, incorporating custom wood and blackened steel elements. The movement is powered by a specialized lift system sourced from New Zealand, which required early engineering coordination between Spire and the design/build teams to ensure flawless integration. The result: a hidden display that glides open silently and smoothly, revealing a rare bourbon collection in dramatic fashion. It’s a statement piece that perfectly balances craftsmanship and control.

The theater room provided a rare opportunity for the technology to take center stage. In contrast to the hidden systems found throughout the rest of the home, the cinema was designed to showcase performance — both visually and acoustically. Spire worked closely with Meridian Audio to install a full DSP-based 5.1 surround system, carefully tuned to overcome the reflective challenges of the home’s concrete-heavy construction. From the custom steel shelf fabricated to support the center channel to the fine-tuned acoustics, the space is a celebration of immersive sound and refined design. This project exemplifies what’s possible when visionary partners, world-class products, and a shared commitment to excellence come together.
